I love having bird parties. I'm not certain who has more fun, the birds or us? We have a terrific time all hanging out together. We go from house to house, taking our birds along with us. Sometimes we will meet at a coffee shop and sit outside with the flock.
The birds don't have to be right next to each other to have fun. We keep them at a safe distance so they have plenty of wing space. They will sit across from each other and put on a great show. We will watch them interact in their own way with all sorts of comical gestures and sounds. They bob their heads, spread their wings and often dance when we start singing!
Bird Parties are a great way to expand your bird's world. I can't think of a better way to spend my weekend. Whether the party only lasts for an hour or so or all day long, it's tons of fun. It really reminds me of taking kids to a party or to the park all day. They have a terrific time playing with the other kids and having a few (healthy) treats and then by the end of the day, they are exhausted and ready for dinner and bed.
Noelle & Karen stop to chat after we had breakfast. The beautiful Green Wing Macaw is Noelle's, Ruby.
Whenever we are all out, plenty of people stop by to ask us questions and even to take photos of the birds. We are always very happy to answer all of their questions and introduce them to our flock.
Woooo Weeeee Party Time!!!
Turn up the music. Woooo-Weeee!
This bird party was held in this little outdoor eating area surrounded by a Coffee shop and ice cream store. That's Donna sitting down with her Hyacinth Skye. Notice that each bird has his own chair. The birds remain separated for safety but really enjoy each others company. We tell visitors they can look but do not touch.
The birds all sit outside of the aviary as I'm busy packing up the car to head out to another birdie party. That's Noelle and Ruby. Every time Ruby saw my GW, Samson, she would spread her wings really big! Sammy & Malibu act like little gentlemen around the "girls".
First we all drove over to Peggy's house and spent the morning there then we all came back to my house to have even more fun! Here, Peggy & Noelle check out some aviaries on the Internet. Ruby wants to look too!
Peggy's Blue & Gold Izzy is checking out the birdie photos. Izzy is about 12 years old.
Notice that each bird hangs out with us and is very much a part of everything we do. They are always on their best behavior!
Check out Noelle's back pack perch. Noelle actually makes these! If you ever see her at one of the bird shows you can buy one for you bird too. Ruby really loves hers, as you can see. Noelle makes us laugh when she bolts around, swinging and bending down to pick things up, Ruby just holds on and enjoys the ride! I bought a back pack perch for my flock too. .
Sometimes we get together and watch bird movies. Noelle is sitting with my flock during one of her earlier visits to Las Vegas. Samson is watching Green Wings at the Clay Lick.
Bird Parties are a great way to socialize your bird. I like the idea of skilled bird owners (not strangers) handling my birds because it helps to keep them socialized. Also, if one of us has to run in to buy coffee or something, the birds feel very comfortable sitting with someone else. If I get up to go buy a snack, my flock doesn't even notice or care if I'm gone... as long as I return with a treat!!!
Sometimes our bird parties last until sun down, like this one at Donna's house. I pack plenty of treats, water and even dinner because I never know how long we may be out. It's so much fun!
Scarlet, my beautiful Solomon Island Eclectus, gets a bit sleepy as one of our parties comes to an end. You better sleep tight Scarlet because there may be another party tomorrow!!!
Tip - If you don't know of other bird owners in your area you should join one of the bird clubs where you will meet plenty of new flocks. Another idea is to ask some of the bird store owners to pass your name and phone number on to new customers who will treasure the chance to meet you.
Let's play pirates. I'll be the captain. Arrrrrrr!
Reminder Note: As with all tips found on Macaw Dreams these are dedicated to birds with clipped feathers playing in a safe & bird friendly environment.
More Birdie Parties
You don't have to have a crowd of people to enjoy a bird party. Here is Macaw Dreams member, Natalie, and her 15 month old Military Macaw, Bella. Natalie threw a bird party in her bird's room!
We're all ready. Are you serving Tea at this party Mom? Here is Bella and Marina, Natalie's 20 month old Eclectus.

Wait, wait. Let me get in position first...
OK. READY!
Natalie enjoys cuddle time with Bella.
Do you come here often?
Look closely, the Blue and Gold is a drawing! Natalie's bird room has beautiful paintings of birds. You can see more photos of her Bird's room on the Aviary Page.

We spent the morning at Arlene's house and then headed to Home Depot with Ruby to buy materials to make the birdie back packs (shown in the photos above). We had so much fun shopping with Ruby. When Ruby is ready to go she says, "Ready?" It's just the sweetest thing.
Important Note: When we take our birds to stores like this we do not let anyone handle them because of liability issues. This is very important. Even if customers or employees ask to hold or touch them we kindly say they aren't friendly towards strangers. Just a tiny nip could get us all in big trouble and we don't want the store to disallow birds. We make certain the birds stay very clear of people.
I also keep paper towels and wet wipes in my bag in case they happen to go potty in the store. Cleaning up after my birds is also important because we don't want to wear out our welcome.
Arlene, Noelle and Ruby the Green Wing Macaw
This is a bird party we had in Arizona. These are Arlene's birds. They are so much fun. She has taught them numerous tricks such as putting trash in the waste basket! She teaches clicker training and you can read all about her on her website.
It's a party everywhere we go.
