Macaw Dreams' site owner,
Angie Rodriguez
is a Farmers Insurance
agency owner who
lives in sunny Nevada
with her husband, flock
and their two Yorkies.
Before entering the insurance business, Angie was an Emmy award winning TV news journalist and champion for the rights of pet shop birds and other caged animals. She is responsible for the creation and passage of stringent County and City laws, pertaining to animal welfare.
After becoming frustrated with the direction of TV news she retired, spending the next 3 years dedicating herself to investigating, researching and studying the world of aviculture on a full time basis. Angie worked closely with Donna Wright, a long time local bird rescuer. After learning to rescue, foster and place numerous birds Angie started the Macaw Dreams Adoption/Foster program.
Angie has cared for several birds over the last decade, from Finches to Budgies to Hyacinths. She stays busy raising her own flock which includes her 7 year old Eclectus and her two 5 year old Macaws. Angie continues to try and provide her birds with a wonderful expanded life while hoping to inspire other bird owners to reach a common goal.
Macaw Dreams is a forum that caters to a more unconventional group of Macaw owners although many of us own other birds. Our goal is to expand our birds' world. We aren't a "free flight" group but we strive to provide our birds with as much freedom as possible. We discuss issues such as socialization, maximizing out of cage time, aviary set ups, daily outdoor trips, healthy diets and even "Bird beds." We don't discuss any formal training, such as clicker/training. Our goal is to simply give our companion birds an expanded and wonderful life while respecting the fact that they are still wild animals.
